The Mansfield Area Chamber of Commerce has a short survey.  Businesses and residents in the Mansfield community who can respond will be a great help in the planning of future activities.

You may see this survey in a packet of information about membership in the Chamber, but just in case you didn’t, or your copy got coffee spilled on it or the dog ate it, we have a link to the survey on the sidebar.   We need the information by March 15, then the survey will be removed from the site to make room for the next big idea!

Sheri Alsup and Deanna Cain announced the entry of Gene Cravens Field this week. “Our little league/softball field has been submitted to Kelloggs for the Plant A Seed ball field repair program.  Our field is currently in great need of repairs that just are not in the budget to get done and won’t be for some time.  One of the criteria for being selected is that you have to have a lot of supporters and voters.  The voting doesn’t start until April but you can go ahead and be a supporter now and that makes it look much better.  ”

So if you don’t mind, could you all go to this website and click that you support this field.  It only takes a moment and you can go back multiple times.  (ignore the typos in the description, she couldn’t see what she was typing).

When visiting the site earlier, there were two entries for Gene Cravens Field. Select the one with the most supporters!

Wilder Days Is a Big Deal Here In Mansfield

Almanzo and Laura Wilder moved to Mansfield with their daughter Rose in 1895.  So…So??

People were moving all over the country in those days, so what makes this a big deal?

Laura, encouraged by her family, began writing her childhood experiences growing up in a pioneer family.  Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote books for children telling them about her childhood.  These books are globally popular, yet Laura Ingalls Wilder and her family were just friendly neighbors in the community.  They made valuable contribution to the culture of Mansfield and by golly, we’re proud of them!  That is why Wilder Days is a Big Deal in Mansfield, Missouri.

If you visit and attend Wilder Days or tour Laura Ingalls Wilder’s home at Rocky Ridge Farm (http://lauraingallswilderhome.com)  you will understand even better.  We will be glad to see you.

Missouri Attorney General Launches State-Wide Office Depot Investigation

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 3 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The Attorney General’s Office for the State of Missouri has announced it has opened a state-wide investigation of Office Depot regarding allegations of fraudulent pricing and overcharging on government contracts.

The National Office Products Alliance (NOPA) observed that these announcements follow the opening of two other state investigations of similar allegations within the past year. In Florida, the Attorney General’s Office announced its ongoing investigation in May 2008 and North Carolina opened an investigative audit on October 28. All three investigations are based on the testimony of David Sherwin, a whistleblower in Florida, where Office Depot is headquartered.

These investigations concern allegations associated with Office Depot’s participation as the sole vendor on the “U.S. Communities” national contract for office and classroom supplies. The annual value of that contract is estimated at $600-700 million. State, county and municipal government agencies and school districts in all 50 U.S. states participate in that contract.

In recent years, this contract has supplanted long-term business relationships that small independent office product dealers enjoyed with local governments and school districts. More recently, several state governments also have made use of the U.S. Communities contract as a new purchasing option for state agency employees.
